How To Keep Your Piercing Clean
Once you get your piercing, you’ll want to make sure it heals properly. Since you’ll have jewelry in the piercing, the healing process will take a little longer, but not to worry! If you keep the piercing clean and free from bacteria, you should have no problems at all …
How To Keep Your Piercing Clean
When cleaning your piercing, avoid regular soap, especially scented or perfumed soap which can irritate the wound. We recommend using bottled saline solution or an anti bacterial liquid soap, both of which are available at any drugstore.
If you’re using anti bacterial liquid soap, which is the easiest solution, be sure to stay away from scented varieties. Most are unscented anyways, but there are a few that are not. Scented liquid soaps usually indicated the presence of perfumes or other chemicals, and it’s best to avoid these.
Piercing Cleaning Instructions
First, make sure your hands are clean. Frankly, it’s best to clean your piercings in the shower because it’s a lot easier to rinse off all the soap.

There really are no special instructions … just make sure the piercing itself, the jewelry, and the area around it are cleaned and rinsed. Don’t keep the soap in the piercing too long … about 20 to 30 seconds maximum.
The key is to rinse thoroughly. Make sure all the soap is rinsed from the piercing, and gently turn the jewelry around so the entire piece is cleaned, including the post.
Dry the piercing with a paper towel or a sterile gauze pad. This will prevent unwanted lint or hair from accidentally getting in and around the piercing.
Also, don’t overdo it with cleaning. Twice a day is sufficient. Over cleansing can be an irritant to piercings, so just be sensible and consistent.
On a day to day basis, there are a few tips. Avoid blankets that tend to snag, as they may get caught up in your piercing and cause your jewelry to be torn out. The same goes for certain types of clothes that can snag, like knits. Also, only attempt to rotate or twist your jewelry when cleaning, as it will move much easier when moist. Attempting to rotate jewelry in a dry piercing can cause discomfort or worse, a breaking of the skin.
Caring for your piercing really comes down to common sense. Follow these guidelines and you’ll enjoy your look with a minimum of problems!
