The labret piercing is just below the lower lip and above the chin. It’s a very common body jewelry style that’s appropriate for both men and women. It’s also a very versatile piercing and one you can adorn with just about any style of gem.
The term “labret” refers to the labrum and is pronounced “lah-brett”. Sometimes in the body jewelry industry you will hear it pronounced in the French style, as in “lah-bray”. Either are acceptable although the word labret is not French so technically the “lah-brett” pronunciation is correct …
Labret piercings take on a variety of looks. You can do a single centered labret piercing, directly below the lower lip, or you can experiment with more adventurous piercings. Two of these are the “snakebite” which is so named because it looks like fangs, with a similar sized piercing on both sides below the lower lip. Another is the “spider bite” syle piercing, which consists of multiple piercings closer together, positioned in any way that suites you below the lower lip and above the chin.
The most common is the single labret piercing just below the lower iip. Over time, you can gradually expand the size of the piercing after healing. This allows you to adorn your piercing with larger sizes of labret body jewelry.
